In the CHINGMU "Digital Dream" Special Competition of the 20th China Creative Challenges Contest, the national first prize-winning 3D animated short film "The Memory Weaver: Reclaiming Lost Moments" closely follows the competition's "Last Minute" theme. It tells the story of the protagonist, Chen Chen, who ventures into a sci-fi memory restoration world to unlock a sealed memory from a rainy night at 17:59, uncovering the truth behind a car accident 20 years ago and reconciling with his reserved father's love. Through striking visual contrasts of warm and cold light and shadow, the film conveys a positive message of confronting trauma.
For this story, the production team created the animation using CHINGMU's high-precision optical motion capture system. By capturing the actors' movements in real time, the protagonist's key physical actions in the memory restoration world—running, searching, and emotional outbursts—were recorded with precision, endowing the character with distinctive dynamic performance and emotional intensity. Meanwhile, the team used the accurate spatial position data output by the motion capture system to plan the virtual camera's movement path, successfully producing first-person subjective shots that follow the protagonist's memory recall, greatly enhancing the scene's immersion and sense of presence. This freed up creative energy to be focused on refining the sci-fi atmosphere.
