In recent years, metaverse and digital‑human technologies have achieved vigorous development, while robotics and artificial‑intelligence industries are gradually moving toward commercial application. As a cutting‑edge field of new‑generation information technology, the development of virtual‑scene production and virtual‑simulation technologies is of great significance for fostering new growth drivers of China’s digital economy and strengthening industrial innovation advantages.
With the growth of the domestic market and innovations in scientific‑research fields, motion‑capture technology has played a vital role in metaverse‑related digital‑human applications. Driven by continuous technological advances, traditional animation production and virtual‑shooting technologies are fueling the metaverse‑driven digital‑human economy. As drone and unmanned‑vehicle technologies gradually mature, collaborative‑control and virtual‑simulation research based on motion‑capture technology carries great value for scientific research and teaching. Multidisciplinary integration and multi‑dimensional innovation also constitute key directions for China’s digital transformation and digital‑driven innovation.
After careful deliberation, the Organizing Committee of the National 3D Digital‑Innovation and Design Competition decides to launch the Special‑Event Competition of Virtual‑Scene Creation and Virtual Simulation under its 16th‑Anniversary Elite League. This competition aims to promote the development and innovation of interdisciplinary technologies including metaverse digital‑human technology, virtual‑scene & virtual‑simulation technology and multi‑drone collaborative control, contribute to China’s sustained rapid scientific‑technological growth, enhance university students’ awareness of innovation and practical‑creation capabilities, deepen university‑enterprise cooperation, accelerate the integration of innovation chains and industrial chains, strengthen students’ competence in digital‑driven and multidisciplinary innovation, and foster high‑quality technical‑oriented, application‑oriented and interdisciplinary talents.

Digital Empowerment, Collaborative Innovation
Two alternative tracks are available for participants (one team from the same university may select only one track):
Track 1: Animation / Virtual Production / Digital‑Human Live‑Streaming (for art‑related majors such as digital media, film‑television animation, virtual reality, journalism and communication)
Track 2: Robot Motion Control (for mechanical‑related majors such as automatic control, robotics and artificial intelligence)
Participants shall produce a short film with motion‑capture / virtual‑production technology, or deliver real‑time performance of virtual digital humans via motion capture. The competition consists of three stages: university‑level preliminary contest, provincial‑level divisional contest and national finals.
Requirements for each stage:
University‑level Preliminary Contest Participants shall submit scripts or other planning documents (including storyboards, previsualization materials, etc.)
Provincial‑level Divisional Contest Participants shall produce a short film using motion‑capture technology, which can be a motion‑captured animation or a short video shot with camera‑tracking‑based virtual‑production / XR technology. For the digital‑human live‑streaming option, teams shall drive virtual digital humans to deliver live performances with motion‑capture equipment. Teams shall submit final works, technical specifications, raw motion‑capture data, model assets, virtual scenes, presentation PPTs and conduct on‑site roadshows.
National Finals This stage adopts on‑site proposition. Participants shall produce a short film or deliver a real‑time performance with motion‑capture technology according to the assigned topic for evaluation.
2.1 This competition focuses on motion‑control research of robots (drones, unmanned vehicles, quadruped robots, etc.) covering obstacle avoidance, trajectory planning, collaborative control and other technologies. It helps improve students’ capabilities in design, programming, hardware‑software integration and hands‑on practice. 2.2 Two optional competition formats: A. Collaboration between drones and unmanned vehicles B. Quadruped robot control 2.3 Competition Stages
University‑level Preliminary Contest Students calculate motion trajectories of drones, unmanned vehicles or quadruped robots using officially‑provided sensor data, and compare the calculated trajectories with those tracked by motion‑capture systems.
Provincial‑level Divisional Contest ‑ Option A (Drone‑Unmanned‑Vehicle Collaboration): Participants shall prepare self‑owned drones and unmanned vehicles to complete assigned tasks on officially‑designated maps (motion‑capture data will be available at the venue). ‑ Option B (Quadruped Robot Control): Participants shall prepare self‑owned quadruped robots to complete assigned tasks on officially‑designated maps (motion‑capture data will be available at the venue).
National Finals ‑ Option A (Drone‑Unmanned‑Vehicle Collaboration): Participants shall prepare self‑owned drones and unmanned vehicles to complete assigned tasks on officially‑designated maps (motion‑capture data will be available at the venue). ‑ Option B (Quadruped Robot Control): Participants shall prepare self‑owned quadruped robots to complete assigned tasks on officially‑designated maps (motion‑capture data will be available at the venue).
Vocational‑college group, undergraduate & postgraduate group. Each team shall consist of 3‑5 competitors and 1‑2 instructors. Each participant may join only one team.
‑ University‑level Preliminary Contest: October 2023 – March 2024 ‑ Provincial‑level Divisional Contest: March 2024 – June 2024 ‑ National Finals: July 2024 ‑ Technical Guidance Period: February – March 2024
All participants shall register, form teams and sign‑up on the official website (https://3dshow.3ddl.net/i/CHINGMU), and fill in relevant information completely, accurately and truthfully.
Track 1 (Animation / Virtual Production / Digital‑Human Live‑Streaming) University‑level stage: Evaluate creativity and innovation of teams. Provincial‑level and national‑level stages: Evaluate planning, scriptwriting, directing, animated performance, visual effects and other dimensions.
Track 2 (Robot Motion Control) University‑level stage: Evaluate participants’ understanding of sensors and algorithms. Provincial‑level and national‑level stages: Score according to the type and quantity of obstacles traversed on designated maps.
The Organizing Committee of the National 3D Competition together with provincial‑level competition committees will invite experts from industry, enterprises and universities to set‑up special committees and judging panels, which will conduct defense‑based evaluation for provincial and national entries. Winners selected from provincial contests will qualify for the national finals.
Teams are ranked in descending order of their total competition scores. In case of tied total scores, rankings will be determined successively by innovation performance and defense presentation scores.
‑ Provincial‑level Divisional Contest: First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize ‑ National Finals: Dragon‑Tripod Grand Award (specially sponsored by CHINGMU Vision), First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize. Excellent Instructor Award and Excellent Organization Award will also be presented based on team organization and award‑winning outcomes.
The National 3D Competition Organizing Committee will commend and reward outstanding winning works and teams at provincial and national levels with honorary certificates, trophies and prizes. Additional opportunities including project incubation for winning entries, priority direct employment offers, postgraduate‑recommendation interviews, mentorship programs, advanced training and internships will be provided. Participating universities may formulate their own incentive policies.
Track 1: Animation / Virtual Production / Digital‑Human Live‑Streaming ‑ University‑level Preliminary Contest: Scripts and other planning documents (in any form, including texts, character settings, storyboards, mood boards, previsualization materials, etc.) ‑ Provincial‑level Divisional Contest & National Finals: A. Finished video work B. Script document C. For 3D‑character animations produced with motion capture: footage of motion‑capture actors, corresponding clips from finished videos, raw motion‑capture source files and model files D. For works using camera‑tracking technology: shooting footage of camera movements, corresponding clips from finished videos (video files) and project files E. Technical solution document for motion‑capture or XR virtual‑shooting technologies applied in the short‑film (Undergraduate teams shall submit an independent Word document covering, but not limited to, technical principles, scheme descriptions and technical architecture diagrams) F. All scene and model source‑files used for production G. Lookbook (PPT): Plot introduction, visual‑effect description, motion‑capture‑technology application introduction, overall technical‑scheme overview, creativity and performance description
Track 2: Robot Motion Control ‑ University‑level Preliminary Contest: Calculation process and results ‑ No such documents are required for provincial‑level and national‑level contests.
In accordance with unified competition rules and evaluation requirements, participants shall submit their 3DShow entries via the special‑event website.
Submitted works shall not contain content violating the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China or public morality. Participating teams shall bear all legal liabilities arising from non‑compliance.
Entries must be original and unpublished. Submitted works shall not infringe upon copyright, trademark rights or other legitimate rights of third‑party entities. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to disqualify teams found guilty of plagiarism.
The National 3D Competition Organizing Committee holds the right to use submitted works for academic exchanges, commercial exhibitions, publicity and other purposes.
The National 3D Competition Organizing Committee reserves the final right of interpretation of this competition.
