Event Review | CHINGMU Motion‑Capture & Virtual‑Human Industry‑University Exchange Forum (Tianjin Stop) Concludes Successfully / Company Updates

On the afternoon of July 13, 2023, the “Motion‑Capture Technology & Virtual‑Digital‑Human Application Industry‑University Exchange Forum · Tianjin Stop” was held in Tianjin. Guided by Tianjin Association for Science and Technology, the forum was co‑hosted by CHINGMU and Tianjin Animation Society, with Tianjin Shangyue Sports Training School as the supporting organization. Centered on the theme “Virtual‑Real Interaction, Lead the Future with Innovation”, the event gave full play to the respective strengths of enterprises and universities, built a cooperation platform, and promoted in‑depth implementation of industry‑education integration and university‑enterprise collaboration. Teachers from multiple universities and secondary vocational schools, as well as representatives of numerous enterprises, attended the conference.

Before the forum officially kicked off, Wei Changzeng, Chairman of Tianjin Animation Society, delivered the opening speech. He extended gratitude to leaders and supporters from all sectors, and outlined the vital role of motion‑capture technology within the meta‑verse, noting its wide‑ranging applications across games, film, sports, medicine and education. To respond to industrial transformation and the national strategy of integrating science and education proposed at the 20th National Congress, as well as to achieve the long‑term national goal of building China into a cultural powerhouse by 2035, he expressed hopes that Tianjin Animation Society could serve as a bridge for deep‑rooted university‑enterprise cooperation among animation, game and media‑related industries and educational institutions, and wished the forum every success.

Taking meta‑verse exploration as a starting‑point to advance industry‑education integration and achieve shared growth among universities, enterprises and society

Li Wenbo, COO of Shanghai CHINGMU Vision Technology Co., Ltd., delivered the first keynote speech titled “Innovative Applications of Optical Motion‑Capture in the Digital‑Entertainment Industry”. He shared real‑world use‑cases of CHINGMU camera‑based motion‑capture solutions for film‑animation production and virtual shooting, reviewed the company’s technical development journey, explained core principles of motion‑capture technology, and showcased CHINGMU’s portfolio of completed projects and behind‑the‑scenes footage from well‑known productions. He also introduced CHINGMU‑run industry‑education programmes and training initiatives established in partnership with universities nationwide.

Li Bang, Director & VFX Supervisor of Longteng Film & Television Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., gave a presentation on the evolving applications and extensions of meta‑verse technologies. Drawing on his company’s project experience, he demonstrated meta‑verse deployments across multiple industries and elaborated on relevant technical frameworks and project backgrounds.

Wang Yifu, Director of Lingran Industrial Meta‑verse Research Center at Tianjin University and General Manager of Lingran Chuangzhi (Tianjin) Animation Technology Development Co., Ltd., provided a detailed breakdown of virtual‑idol production workflows and presented classic projects completed by his team.

Chu Yue, Teaching Director, Senior Animator and Animation Director of BASE FX basecamp, discussed the industry shift from traditional film‑production pipelines to virtual‑production workflows. He shared insights into the company’s business scope, growth trajectory, outstanding projects and practical integration strategies for virtual technologies.

Wu Min, Sales Director of Beijing Xingtuo Shilian Culture Media Co., Ltd., talked about XR and virtual‑digital‑human applications within the audio‑visual sector. She explained project decomposition, production pipelines and applicable scenarios developed by her enterprise to keep pace with meta‑verse trends, and showcased a selection of representative works.

Hands‑on motion‑capture experience explores future possibilities for meta‑verse development

After the keynote sessions, attendees watched live motion‑capture demonstrations. Li Wenbo explained the underlying technical principles and cross‑industry applications of CHINGMU’s self‑developed cameras and software. Dancers wearing CHINGMU tracking equipment performed live, driving real‑time rendered virtual‑human performances displayed on LED screens inside a virtual‑engine environment, leaving a deep‑rooted impression on all guests. Many participants tested CHINGMU’s self‑developed motion‑capture headsets on‑site and consulted technical staff about equipment specifications.

CHINGMU unites multi‑party resources to steadily promote industry‑education‑integration development

A major highlight of the event was the official call‑for‑entries for the 16th National 3D Digital‑Innovation‑and‑Design Competition (National 3D Competition), with full technical support provided by CHINGMU. As a large‑scale public‑welfare contest launched against the national innovation‑driven‑development strategy, the National 3D Competition aligns with industrial‑upgrade requirements and embodies the spirit of mass entrepreneurship and innovation. After 14 years of development, it has been officially included on the national university discipline‑competition ranking list issued by the Ministry of Education of China.

Since its launch in 2008, the National 3D Competition has successfully run for 16 editions, earning wide recognition from local governments, universities and enterprises. Its scale continues to expand: more than 1,000 universities take part each year, over 8 million contestants have joined preliminary rounds, more than 190,000 winners have been awarded at provincial level, and over 19,000 winners have received national‑level honours. It is widely known in the industry as the “Makers’ Carnival, 3D Olympics and Oscar for Innovative Design”.

As an innovative educational model, the competition accelerates nationwide implementation of the talent‑training framework integrating competition‑teaching and industry‑education, and can be embedded throughout the full talent‑training lifecycle in higher‑education institutions. The National 3D Competition drives comprehensive progress covering digital‑related major construction, curriculum design, faculty training, evaluation systems, student cultivation and graduate‑employment support.

With continuous technical advances in motion‑capture and virtual‑digital‑human technology, CHINGMU will further upgrade its technology, service capabilities and resource‑integration strengths to help vocational‑college teaching stay closely aligned with real‑world industrial requirements. Supported by Tianjin Animation Society, this forum built a valuable face‑to‑face communication channel between motion‑capture enterprises and educational institutions, laid a solid foundation for the future digital‑art industry, and opened‑up new industry‑oriented opportunities for higher‑vocational colleges.
