5G+VR‑Powered Anime‑Style Virtual Idol Live Stream in Partnership With Huawei / Company Updates

On October 23, Huawei hosted its 5G‑Terminal & All‑Scenario New‑Product Launch Event at its Bantian Headquarters in Shenzhen. With the arrival of 5G technology, VR devices ushered in transformative upgrades. He Gang, President of Huawei’s Mobile‑Phone Product Line, unveiled the long‑awaited Huawei 5G flagship smartphone and a suite of new smart‑living products, including HUAWEI VR Glass and FreeBuds 3 headphones.


Supported by high‑speed, low‑latency 5G networks, on‑site visitors experienced a 5G+VR anime‑style virtual‑idol live broadcast in the demo zone. Motion‑capture data generated in CHINGMU Vision’s motion‑capture lab was transmitted to Huawei Mate 30 series 5G smartphones. Leveraging the powerful computing performance of the Kirin 990 5G chip, real‑time rendering enabled live limb‑movement mapping for virtual avatars, which were then displayed via VR headsets. The technology brought virtual characters vividly to life and delivered an unprecedented immersive experience for attendees.

5G+VR Live Streaming Delivers Fully Immersive, Lifelike Experiences

The large bandwidth and low latency of 5G perfectly meet the high‑definition display and real‑time‑interaction requirements of VR and AR, driving breakthroughs across related industries. Audiences were able to interact seamlessly with the virtual anime idol “Ciyuan‑Jiang”, breaking the limits of flat 2‑D visuals and stepping into a three‑dimensional interactive space with multi‑sensory feedback including haptics. In the future, Huawei’s 5G‑enabled hardware will make immersive experiences accessible for all kinds of virtual avatars.

This demonstration scenario was jointly developed by Huawei’s Wireless Application Lab together with Huawei Cloud, Agora and Chuanghuan Tech. As the motion‑capture‑data partner for the project, CHINGMU Vision delivered high‑quality technical support through its professional, fully‑fledged motion‑capture studio.

CHINGMU Vision Motion‑Capture Supporting Equipment

  1. MC1300 tracking cameras: ultra‑wide‑field‑of‑view, high‑precision and lightweight

  2. Real‑time optical motion‑capture software: built on advanced algorithms to deliver high‑speed tracking, exceptional accuracy and low latency

  3. Post‑processing software for optical motion‑capture: rapidly repairs captured motion‑data to satisfy diverse application‑scenario requirements, with seamless compatibility with the tracking software.

Known as a “second‑site venue” in the 5G era, VR live‑streaming allows viewers to feel as if they are seated at a sports match or in the front‑row of a concert, compensating for missed on‑site events. The workflow virtualises live broadcast production: footage is sent from the broadcast console to cloud servers and streamed over 5G networks in real‑time to Huawei Mate 30 5G smartphones for playback on HUAWEI VR Glass.

Over at the 5G Cyberverse AR demo zone, Huawei Cyberverse technology integrates high‑precision 3D mapping, spatial‑computing, advanced environment‑perception and hyper‑realistic mixed‑reality rendering capabilities. Built upon the end‑cloud‑network 5G architecture, it supports the construction and operation of a global‑scale mixed‑reality world. Massive datasets are stored on the cloud and streamed in real‑time via high‑bandwidth 5G connections, enabling AR‑overlay of digital information onto real‑world environments.

Marked as the first year of commercial 5G deployment, this era enables cloud‑rendered content to be streamed to mobile phones over high‑bandwidth 5G connections. Offloading rendering workloads frees up smartphone computing power and makes immersive VR gaming far more accessible to everyday users.
